At Rocklin Dental, we perform orthodontic treatments similar to Invisalign, called SureSmile. This clear aligner treatment acts in lieu of the metal braces we use to see as kids. Orthodontic treatments help to fix teeth misalignment, crossbite, overbite, underbite, and crowding. Crowding can be corrected by orthodontic treatment because as the teeth become properly aligned, they tend to fit better in the mouth. Fixing crowding issues makes cleaning easier and prevents tooth decay due to food debris being left behind in the tight spaces between teeth. Another benefit of orthodontia is realignment of the jaw. Misalignment of the jaw can cause problems with chewing and speaking and contribute to an irregular bite. A person can chew and speak correctly when the jaw is properly aligned.
Here are some of the orthodontic treatments we provide:
SureSmile is an alternative to braces and is often chosen by patients who don’t want to wear metal brackets or wires on their teeth for long periods. Rather than straightening their teeth using traditional metal brackets and wires, patients use clear aligners to straighten their teeth. Each aligner should be worn for two weeks before advancing to the next aligner. Aligners are removable by the wearer but must be worn for at least 22 hours daily to be effective. You are given a new pair of aligners every two weeks to continue your treatment until your teeth are straight.
The Benefits of SureSmile
Unlike braces, which use metal brackets and wires to straighten teeth, SureSmile uses clear aligner trays to move teeth gradually into the proper position. This makes it easier to maintain a normal appearance during orthodontic treatment. And because the aligners are removable, patients don’t have to worry about staining or discoloration from food or drinks. This can benefit patients who have difficulty brushing and flossing around traditional braces. Another benefit of SureSmile is that the aligners are completely customizable.
Retainers are custom-made devices that help control minor shifting of your teeth. After you’ve worn braces or finished your SureSmile routine, our dentist will fit you for a retainer to wear at night. This keeps teeth stable in their new position until your bones and gums have correctly adjusted to the new positioning of your teeth. Wearing your retainer as directed is crucial to prevent your teeth from returning to their original position. Your retainer must also be replaced every five years to ensure its function.
Wear Retainers as Prescribed
Your teeth will take some time to adjust to their new placements. Your bones, muscles, and gum tissue must all adjust to the changes induced by your orthodontic treatment. If you do not wear your retainer after your teeth have straightened for the prescribed time, they may shift back out of alignment.
