When seeking the perfect mouthwash, remember that the products that you use for your teeth should fit the goals and needs of your smile. For example, if you are using toothpaste and mouthwash products that focus on whitening teeth, but you have dental erosion and cavities, it’s time to search for new products – products with enamel strengthening properties and fluoride.

It may be helpful to talk to your dentist, Dr. Jerard Wilson before investing in any one product. Mouthwash comes in several flavors and varieties. It can range from fluoride treatments to simple breath fresheners. To confirm the safety and efficacy of your mouthwash, look for brands that feature the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance.

Never use mouthwash as a substitute for brushing and flossing; mouthwash was designed to be a supplemental cleaning tool only. Although some categories of mouthwash can wash away plaque buildup and harmful acids, it can’t meet the required level of clean that brushing and flossing daily will do. If you suffer from halitosis, however, mouthwash should be one of your first treatment methods to try.
